Elise N. Burgess

Elise N. Burgess, 98, of Kingston, passed away peacefully at Linn Health Care Center in East Providence on April 15, 2012 with her son, Douglas at her bedside. Elise was the daughter of the late William and Elise (Godfrey) Butler of Riverside, RI and the wife of the late Donald F. Burgess. She graduated from East Providence High School and worked at Shepard’s Department Store until she married in 1938. She and her family moved to Norwalk, CT in 1947 where Elise was an active member of the Norwalk United Methodist Church. They moved to Southbury, CT in 1980 and became members of the Woodbury United Methodist Church. They remained there until returning to Rhode Island in 1994 where they became members of the Kingston Christ United Methodist Church. Elise was predeceased by her son, Donald W. Burgess and is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Douglas and Shannon Burgess of Kingston; her grandchildren, Shawn Burgess Vernieri of Naples, FL, Douglas Burgess, Jr. of Brooklyn, NY and Andrew Burgess of Kingston; her step grandchildren, Yvonne Bingaman of New Jersey and Scott Forcier of Florida; and two great grandchildren, Brianna Soviero and Alex Soviero of New Jersey. Elise will be remembered by her family and friends for her kindness, gentleness and faithfulness. A funeral service will be held at the Christ United Methodist Church, 2291 Kingstown Road, Kingston, RI on Friday April 27, 2012 at 11:00 AM with interment to follow in the Rhode Island Veterans Cemetery in Exeter, RI.
