Elinor M.E. Schneider, 89, of South Kingstown, RI, and formerly of Charlestown and Richmond, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Saturday August 27, 2016. She was the beloved wife of the late Stewart P. Schneider. Born in Portsmouth, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late Henry H. and Eleanor (Christ) Eccles. Elinor is survived by her daughter Eleonore “Beth” Schneider and partner Jochen Siegenthaler of Zurich, Switzerland; and her son Edwin Schneider of North Kingstown, RI. Elinor graduated from Oberlin College and Teachers College, Columbia University which included courses at General Theological Seminary and Union Theological Seminary. She worked in the National Education Department of the Episcopal Church in New York City where she met her future husband Stewart. She had been a member of The Arbutus Garden Club, Fayerweather Craft Guild, Southern New England Emmaus and St. Augustine’s Episcopal Church, loved the beauty of nature especially birds and flowers, and was a published author. The family wishes to thank the Brookdale South Bay team in South Kingstown for their three years of loving care given to Elinor as well as Hope Hospice & Palliative Care of RI for the comfort provided to Elinor and her family in her final days. A memorial service will be held at 11 am Saturday, September 3rd at St. Augustine’s Episcopal Church, 15 Lower College Road, Kingston. Visiting hours are respectfully omitted.
