Eleanor Lewis Smith

February 8, 1920 — November 18, 2009

Eleanor (Lewis) Smith, 89, of Easley, SC and formerly of South Kingstown, died peacefully November 18th at home, after a long illness. She was the wife of the late Frederick B. Smith. Born in East Providence, she was a daughter of the late Joseph H. and Phoebe (Smith) Lewis. Mrs. Smith was a School Bus Monitor for the Narragansett School System for several years and she was an active member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post 39. She enjoyed spending time with her family and writing poetry, and many of her poems had been published. Surviving are three children; Jeannette P. Cassidy of Liberty, SC, Alfred B. Smith and his wife Rosemary of Narragansett, Frederick B. Smith, Jr. with whom she lived, of Easley, SC; six grandchildren, nine great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren. She was the grandmother of the late Robert Cassidy and Kevin Cassidy; sister of the late Dorothy Wright, Gladys Egan, Joseph, Richard and Allen Lewis; and mother in law of the late Francis Cassidy. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday, November 24th at 10 AM in St. Francis of Assisi Church, 114 High Street, Wakefield. Burial will follow in St. Francis cemetery, Peace Dale. Visiting hours are at the Avery-Storti Funeral Home, 88 Columbia Street, Wakefield Monday November 23rd from 4-7 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Salvation Army, 20 Miner Street, Providence, RI 02905.
