Eleanor M. Mullaney, 87, of Matunuck, RI, passed away peacefully on January 31, 2025.
Eleanor was born on October 7th, 1937 in Providence, RI, a daughter of the late Felix F. Gallogly, Jr. and Eleanor (Ahearn) Gallogly.
A graduate of Classical High School in Providence, Eleanor was the class valedictorian. She went on to earn her degree in Education from Rhode Island College, and then spent over 25 years as a beloved math teacher at Pilgrim High School in Warwick, all while raising her four children.
She was a woman of profound passion and unwavering devotion, and her love for music was one of the cornerstones of her life. An accomplished pianist, Eleanor was a proud member of many jazz bands including Happy Tymes, Jazz Strollers and ROMPS (Retired Old Musicians Playing Swing), sharing her gift of music at local venues, nursing homes and senior centers. Eleanor also loved her small community of Matunuck, and she dedicated much of her time to the Matunuck Community Association.
Above all, Eleanor cherished her family. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, and her love for her children and their families knew no bounds. Eleanor is survived by her four children, Erin M. Williamson, Dr. John F. Mullaney (Dianne), Stephen P. Mullaney (Liz), and Michael J. Mullaney. She also leaves behind nine grandchildren, Lauren (Wes), Taylor (Will), Colin, Lexie (Henry), Connor (Carly), Bella, Kelly (Duncan), Chris, and Riley, four great-grandchildren, Declan, Levi, Reese and Henry, and her sister, Margaret M. Navin (David).
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, February 6, 2025, at 10:00 AM at St. Romuald Chapel, 61 Atlantic Ave, Matunuck. Burial will follow at St. Francis Cemetery, Peace Dale. Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, February 5, 2025, from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at Avery-Storti Funeral Home, 88 Columbia St., Wakefield.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Eleanor’s memory to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Pl, Memphis, TN 38105.
