Eldridge A. Stroble, 76, of Wakefield, passed away Sunday, surrounded by his family. He was the beloved husband of Eileen (Schnizler) Stroble for 53 years. Born in Givhans, SC, he was a son of the late Grover S. and Louise (Syfrett) Stroble. Mr. Stroble was employed for AT & T for 38 years. He served honorably in the United States Navy and took part in the Cuban Blockade during the Cuban Missile Crisis. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, farming, and gardening. Besides his wife he is survived by four children, Melinda Honan of Charleston, SC, Bridget Grimmie of North Kingstown, Stephen Stroble of South Kingstown, and Aubrey Rodman of South Kingstown; sixteen grandchildren including, Jared Stroble, Jebediah Stroble, Justine Stroble, Isaiah Stroble, Raven Grimmie, and Rebecca Grimmie; five great grandchildren; a sister, Martha Billings of Charleston, SC; and two brothers, Larry Stroble of South Carolina, and Benjamin Stroble of Mississippi. Visiting hours are at the Avery-Storti Funeral Home, 88 Columbia Street, Wakefield, Wednesday 4-7 p.m. Funeral and burial will be private.
