Eileen H. Riley, 69, of South Kingstown, passed away at home on Friday, December 20th. She was the beloved wife of James F. Cashman. Born in Haverhill, Massachusetts, she was a daughter of the late Elizabeth "Betty" (Littlefield) Riley. Besides her husband, she is survived by four children, Joshua Riley and his wife Erin; Nicholas Riley, Simon Riley and his wife Mariola, and Sarah Riley; granddaughter Caroline Riley; and a brother, Michael Riley. She was the sister of the late Stephen Riley. Eileen and her husband met on Block Island where she raised her first sons, Joshua and Nicholas. They moved to the mainland before Simon was born. They remained in South Kingstown where they lived and raised the two youngest children. Eileen earned a degree from business school and worked for ten years at the Cross Mills Public Library as a Library Technician, providing technical support and assisting the public. She was an outspoken and proactive member of the community, and worked diligently for many years advocating for local schools and teachers, womens rights, and environmental conservation. Through town hall and PTA meetings, write-ins, and organized protests, she dedicated her life to forging a better world for future generations. Eileen lived life passionately, and loved her friends and family fiercely. She was a mother to many, and a lifeline to those in need. She will be forever loved, and deeply missed. There will be a celebration of her life for family and friends planned for this spring.
