Eileen Maguire, died peacefully on June 6, 2021 at Elderwood of Scallop Shell at the age of 98. She was born in Astoria, Queens, New York on March 12, 1923. After secretarial school, she worked at the Wall Street Journal where she met her husband Thomas Maguire. They moved to Manhattan and later settled in Long Island where they raised their family. She later went back to work for Suffolk County. Although never losing her love for New York, Eileen eventually moved to Rhode Island to be near her daughter and grandchildren. In her later years, she enjoyed traveling to many parts of the world, often staying at Elder Hostels. She loved painting, especially watercolors, and was an avid reader. Eileen was 'a woman before her time' with a magnetic and feisty personality. Eileen is survived by her five children: sons, Thomas Maguire of Sebastian, FL; Mark and Tess Maguire of Wales, ME; Peter Maguire of Sarasota, FL; Kenneth and Melissa Maguire of High Falls, NY; and daughter, Mary and Lyle Mook of West Kingston, RI. Eileen was ‘Nana’ to five grandchildren and ‘Great Nana’ to ten great-grandchildren. She is much loved and will be greatly missed.
