Eileen (Hathaway) Hovanesian, 76, of South Kingstown passed away on Tuesday, January 24, 2023. She was the daughter of the late William A Hathaway and Ellerena (Baker) Hathaway. She was the wife of Charles Hovanesian.
Born in South Kingstown RI. she was a lifelong resident. She was the owner of Sak's flower shop for many years. After selling the shop she worked at the University of Rhode Island book store for 20 years as a buyer. Eileen became an ordained minister and officiated the weddings of her nephew John A. Sartini and Brenda (Kirkpatrick) Sartini. She also performed the wedding ceremony for her niece Katie (Hovanesian) Jones and Kai Jones.
Eileen had the unique ability to see the positive in every situation and the good in everyone. She had tremendous love for her family and friends. She touched the lives of the many people she came into contact with. Christmas was her favorite time of the year and she always had her home decorated to the max and enjoyed hosting Family and friends at her annual Christmas party. She also enjoyed sitting on her patio soaking up the sun and observing the flora and fauna in her yard.
She was an avid shopper and loved dining out. She was especially attached to her Peach Faced love bird Lovey. Lovey would camp out on her shoulder while she was cooking or doing chores. She also enjoyed feeding her frogs in her garden pond. As a young girl she raised Golden Retrievers along with her dad.
Eileen leaves behind her husband whom she met in high school in 1961 and were married in 1967. They were together for 62 wonderful years. She also leaves behind her son Mark
Hovanesian and his wife Vicki and her grandchildren Andrew Fitzgerald and Andrya Fitzgerald and her great grandchildren James Fitzgerald and Braedon Appleton. Her daughter Meggan Hovanesian and her partner Joseph Mortensen. She felt her children were her greatest blessing.
She also leaves behind five siblings, Dr. Kenneth Hathaway and his wife Nancy, Mrs. Karen Sartini and her husband John, Mr. Kevin Hathaway and his wife Amy, Mr.John Hathaway and Mr.Steven Hathaway and his spouse Tara Marshall. She also leaves behind her brother in law Joel Hovanesian and his wife Susan, and sister in law Gail Hovanesian and her partner Jeff Speight also many nieces and nephews whom she adored.
Eileen's wishes were to have her funeral private but family and friends are welcome. There will be an 11:00 AM service at Avery Storti Funeral Home on Columbia Street, Wakefield on Tuesday January 31, 2023.
