Edward R. Smith, Jr.

Edward R. Smith, Jr., 85, passed away Saturday. He was the beloved husband of the late Luella (Phelps) Smith. Born in South Kingstown, he was a son of the late Edward R., Sr. and Myrtle E. (Phillips) Smith. Mr. Smith retired from Amtrak in 1993, after working for the railroad for 39 years. He enjoyed travelling the country after his retirement, cooking, and in his younger years he showed dogs in many competitions around the country. He is survived by two sons, Edward R. Smith, II and his wife Vickie of Dalzell, South Carolina, and Bradley Smith and his wife Donna of Charlestown; two grandchildren, Chet Smith and his wife Kristin, and Lia Smith; three great-grandchildren, Zane, Kellen, and Rowan; a sister, Suzanne Browning of Wakefield,; and a brother, Brian Smith. He was the grandfather of the late Margaret Smith and brother of the late Robert Smith. Visiting hours will be held at the Avery-Storti Funeral Home, 88 Columbia Street, Wakefield, Thursday 5-7 pm.
