Edward L. Lewis, Sr., 88, of South Kingstown, peacefully passed away on July 14, 2017. He was the devoted husband of 60 years to Lois (Mulvaney) Lewis. Born in Providence, he was the son of the late Leo and Catherine (Maresca) Lewis and brother of the late Rose Lewis. Ed served in the U.S. Army in WWII. He worked for the IBEW Local 99 Electricians Union until retirement. Ed and Lois were fortunate to be able to spend many winters in Bradenton, FL. Ed was an athlete his entire life and after retirement participated in many Senior Olympics, becoming a highly decorated, nationally ranked athlete. He ran local road races into his early 80’s. Ed coached baseball for the Narragansett Little League, youth basketball, and adult basketball and softball teams. Ed was revered for his hard-nosed and fundamentals-focused philosophy. He was a great example of what one can achieve through hard work and a healthy lifestyle. Ed was a man of little needs as he lived for his family, his Dunkin Donuts coffee, a training run on the track or on the beach, the Journal and his chair by the ocean at Bonnet Shores Beach Club. Known as Pop Pop to his family, he is survived by his children Edward Lewis Jr. of Florida, Nancy Lewis-Oliver and her husband, Gary Oliver of Narragansett, and Patricia Lewis-Porrazzo and her husband Joseph Porrazzo of Johnston; three grandchildren, Joshua, Zachary and Amanda. We will miss you Pop! A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, July 21, 2017 at 10:00 am in Christ the King Church, 180 Old North Rd, Kingston, RI, 0288.
