Edward Z. Kedzierski

May 14, 1918 — September 18, 2010

Edward Z. Kedzierski, 92, of Wakefield, died peacefully at home of cancer on September 18, surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of the late Marie (Riso) Kedzierski. Born in Jersey City, New Jersey, he was the son of the late Zygmund and Julia (Faber) Kedzierski and brother of the late Arthur and Richard Kedzierski. Ed and his wife Marie raised their 6 children in Massapequa Park, NY where he had a long career in the restaurant business. He moved to Rhode Island in 1981 to live with his daughter Linda Butcher, her husband Tom and their children Shea Butcher, Brooke Butcher Pryce and Emily Butcher. He quickly immersed himself in the local community. He enjoyed sharing his love of food with family and friends alike. Ed, “Pop” to many who knew him, was a volunteer at South County Hospital for 20 years and was well known by many in the community for his quick wit, kindness and exuberance for life. He was a Eucharistic Minister at St. Francis Assisi Church in Wakefield and a Navy veteran of World War II. Ed is survived by his children Marie Horenburger, Arthur Kedzierski (wife Gail), Linda Butcher (husband Tom), Helen Hood, Karen Sliwak (husband Tony) and Edward G. Kedzierski. In addition he is survived by 14 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and numerous in laws. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday at 10:00 AM in St. Francis of Assisi Church, 114 High St., Wakefield. Burial with military honors will be in Calverton Veterans Cemetery, Long Island. Visiting hours Monday 4-8 PM in the Avery-Storti Funeral Home, 88 Columbia St., Wakefield. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to South County Hospital Auxiliary, 100 Kenyon Ave Wakefield, RI 02879 or Home and Hospice Care of Rhode Island, 1085 North Main St., Providence, RI 02904.
