Edna M. Nightingale

Edna May Nightingale, (Bryce), 90, of Post Road, Wakefield, died peacefully Dec. 5, 2011. She was the wife of the late William E. Nightingale and companion of the late Lawrence C. Hayman. Born in Providence, on Feb. 4, 1921, she was a daughter of the late Robert D. and May (Brierley) Bryce. Mrs. Nightingale lived in Pawtucket, until moving to South County in 1959. She was an expert swimmer, excelled at needlework, loved dancing, cruises, the theater and reading. She studied elocution and was known for her hilarious sense of humor. Edna worked as a hostess at the Larchwood Inn for eighteen years, before retiring in 1985. She is survived by her loving daughter Bethany Young and her husband Ronald; a cousin Alan Brierley; and a nephew Dr. David Bryce. She was the sister of the late David D. Bryce. Visiting hours will be at the Avery-Storti Funeral Home, 88 Columbia Street, Wakefield, Saturday 10- 11 AM, followed by a funeral service at 11 AM. Burial will be private in New Fernwood Cemetery, Kingston. Memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association of Southern New England, 1 State Street, Suite 200, Providence, RI 02908 or the Alzheimer’s Association, RI Chapter, 245 Waterman Street, Suite 306, Providence, RI 02906.
