Edna Bernier

Edna G. Bernier, 99, of Wakefield, passed away Friday, October 2, 2015 at home. She was the wife of the late Lionel J. Bernier. Born in Kingston, she was a daughter of the late Omer and Mary Louise (Duranleau) Fortin. Mrs. Bernier worked as a cook in dining services at the University of Rhode Island before retiring and also worked in the office at Northup’s Service Center. She was a communicant and a volunteer on several committees at Christ the King Church. Mrs. Bernier enjoyed bowling at Old Mountain Lanes, volunteering at the Senior Center and the Store House. She was an avid card player, enjoyed gardening, reading and spending time with her family. She was the mother of Rachel Northup and her husband Louis of Wakefield, Ronald Bernier and his wife Dolores of Wakefield, Marguerite Bernier of Richmond, Mary Gerber and her husband Ray of Maine and Richard Bernier and his wife Audrey of Wakefield. She leaves eight grandchildren; six great grandchildren; one great-great grandson; and was the grandmother of the late Christine Bernier. She was the sister of the late Alfred Fortin, Brother Romeo Fortin, Sister Loretta Fortin, Henry Fortin, Sister Bertha Fortin, Roland Fortin, Alcide Fortin, Claire Cronin and Joseph Fortin. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday at 10:00 a.m. in Christ the King Church, 180 Old North Rd., Kingston. Burial will be in RI Veterans Cemetery, Exeter. Visiting hours will be held Sunday 3-6 p.m. in Avery-Storti Funeral Home, 88 Columbia St., Wakefield.
