Edley R. Strickland, Jr.

Edley R. Strickland, Jr., 61, of Charlestown, died Thursday, June 3, 2010. Born in Newport, he was a son of the late Edley R. and Etta B. (Hughes) Strickland. He graduated from South Kingstown High School in 1968 and attended the University of Florida. Mr. Strickland was a Project Manager in the heavy construction business, overseeing the construction of many schools, hospitals and other large buildings. He is a United States Marine Corp Veteran of the Vietnam War. In his spare time he enjoyed fishing. Surviving are, a daughter, Ashley Strickland of Chandler, Arizona; two brothers, Patrick Strickland of South Kingstown and Peter Strickland of East Hampton, CT; three sisters, Kerry Strickland of Narragansett, Judith Strickland of West Kingston and Bridget Strickland of Saco, Maine. Private burial with military honors will take place in the Rhode Island Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Exeter.
