Edgar J. Brown

April 4, 1933 — September 1, 2018

Edgar Jason Brown, 85, of Wakefield, passed away peacefully in his home with his family by his side on Saturday, September 1, 2018. Ed, the son of the late Frederick and Anna (Garcia) Brown, was born in Waltham, Mass, on April 4, 1933, and raised in Wrentham, MA. He was predeceased by his beloved brother Frederick Brown, Jr. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Patricia (Kolisnyk) Brown. Together they raised three children; Steven Brown of Wakefield, Paula (John) Tucker of Wakefield, and Kristine (Dale) Moore of Brownwood, Texas. One of his favorite roles was that of Grandpa" which he played to eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. One of his greatest passions in life was education. After graduating from Wrentham High School, Ed enrolled in the U.S Navy serving during the Korean Conflict. After serving, Ed entered Union College Teacher Training Program graduating in 1959. The family settled in Narragansett in 1959 where Ed became a history teacher at Narragansett High School. During his 30 year career, Mr. Brown (as he was known to his students) oversaw an alternative education program that allowed at-risk students to achieve their goal of a high school diploma. His spaghetti dinners were legendary and helped fund yearly ninth grade trips to New York City. You couldnt go into Wakefield or Narragansett without someone saying "Hey Mr. Brown". Ed never missed the opportunity to catch up, tell a joke, or see a friendly face. Eds second career was as a realtor for H.D. Randall for over 20 years. A true New Englander, Ed loved all things outdoors. At home he enjoyed gardening, bird watching, reading, politics and history. At least once a year Ed would escape to one of his favorite places on earth, Moosehead Lake, Maine. Fishing, hunting and boating kept him busy and he absolutely loved sharing these passions with his brother, children, and grandchildren. His greatest joy was seeing his family together. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, September 5, 2018 at 10am in Church of the Ascension, 370 Main St, Wakefield.
