Earle G. Simmons

SIMMONS, EARLE G., 85, of Wakefield and North Kingstown, formerly of Warwick, died Saturday at South County Hospital. Born in North Dighton, MA, December 18, 1924, the son of the late Leon E. and Grace (Hammond) Simmons. Mr. Simmons served in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers during W.W. II and was a graduate of Brown University Class of 1950. He was Vice President of Sales/Marketing for Improved Laminated Metals after serving in a similar capacity for Engelhard Industries. In 1970 he founded Simmons Display Co. and formed a division to manufacture bird feeders and accessories called Seed Stop and held several patents for displays and bird feeders. Mr. Simmons was a member of Warwick Country Club, Winnepaug Country Club, Woodland Greens Golf Club and Senior Bowling at Old Mountain Lanes. He was an avid golfer and fisherman, particularly fishing for Atlantic salmon. He was involved in volunteering for Meals on Wheels, Sympatico, South County Hospital, Seniors Helping Others, Boy Scouts and for many years East Greenwich Little League as a coach and team sponsor. He is survived by his wife, Eleanor (Picha) Webster Simmons; children, Geoffrey of Providence, Beth of Coral Springs, FL, Nancy of Bath, ME, Peter of Brunswick, ME, Steven of Glocester, Mary Motte of Cranston, Jennifer Cullinane of South Kingstown and Michael of West Kingston; stepchildren, Richard Webster of Marlborough, CT and Michael Webster of New London, NH; twelve grandchildren and his former wife Anita M. Simmons. The funeral will be Wednesday at 9:00 AM from the Avery-Storti Funeral Home, 88 Columbia Street, Wakefield followed by a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 AM in St. Francis of Assisi Church, 114 High St., Wakefield. Burial with military honors will be in the RI Veterans Cemetery, Exeter. Visiting hours Tuesday 4-8 PM.
