Obituary

Dorothy M. "Dotti" Mitchell, 90, of Narragansett, Rhode Island, passed away on Tuesday, October 27, 2026, at Westerly Hospital. She was the loving wife of the late William J. Mitchell, with whom she shared fifty years of marriage.

Dotti was the youngest of ten children born to the late Harold and Genevieve (Morse) Hunt of Providence. She and her husband moved to Narragansett in the early 1950s, where they raised their children in a little ranch house full of love and laughter, run by a tiny woman who was both fragile and fierce.

The door was always open at Dotti's. Generations of her children's friends, and their children, knew that her living room or kitchen table was a safe place to land. Whether someone needed a Band-Aid or a meal, a listening ear, a hug, or a hand to hold, Dotti was there. Never too busy, never hurried, she was always patient and always so kind.

As a childhood friend of her daughter recalled, "Dotti was the mom who not only watched out for her own kids, but everyone's kids. She was always home, day or night, and always seemed like she was waiting just for you. You could talk about anything and everything. If she was your mom, you knew how lucky you were; if she wasn't, you spent a lot of time wishing she was."

As a grandmother, she was the secret keeper, the best hug giver, a video game champion, and a pretty good cornhole player-even at 80.

Neither time nor illness could dim the love Dotti had for her family or the love they had for her. That enduring love will forever be her legacy.

She was the adored mother of Kathryn J. Mitchell, Cindy A. Page and her husband, Edward J. Page, Karen A. Mitchell, and Cameron W. Mitchell. She was a beloved grandmother and great-grandmother to Melissa Page, Ashley Page-Tucker, Michael Page, Dempsey S. Mitchell, and Livia Page, of Narragansett.

"That's why love stories don't have endings, because love doesn't end." - Jonathan Livingston Seagull
