Dorothy T Leduc

April 23, 1936 — November 6, 2024

Dorothy T. Leduc, 88, of Kingston, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 6, 2024 surrounded by her family. Born in Providence, Rhode Island, she was the loving daughter of the late Joseph and Dorothy (Townsend) Spaziano. She was the devoted wife of Edgar Leduc for 66 years. In addition to her husband, she is survived by her sons Robert, Charles, and Joseph, daughters-in-law, Janet and Cynthia, her grandchildren Teagan and Evan, her brother Robert Spaziano, and sister-in-law Judy.

Dorothy was known for her million watt smile and the kind ear she always lent to anyone in need. She delighted as much in learning as she did watching the birds in her backyard, going to the beach, or morning coffee with her husband. Her resilient spirit and unquenchable joy stood her in good stead through the challenges of illness in later life. She was an avid reader of fiction and theology and a great lover of music, art, and dancing.

Dorothy was a devoted member of Kingston Congregational Church for decades, where she taught in the children's education programs, served among the deacons, and attended the women's fellowship group.

Following her graduation from Cranston High School in 1954, Dorothy attended the University of Rhode Island where she earned a degree in Education in 1958. She worked as a school teacher in Indiana while Edgar completed his doctorate in Political Science at Indiana University. The couple moved to State College, PA, where their three children were born, in 1963. Dorothy was thrilled to return to Rhode Island in 1969 when the family resettled in Kingston for Edgar's position at the University of Rhode Island. Dorothy returned to the University of Rhode Island to complete a Masters degree in Counseling Psychology in 1975, following which she worked for Washington County Mental Health Services as a Counselor and Director of Community Support until her retirement in 1998.

A memorial service will be held at Kingston Congregational Church in the spring. In lieu of flowers, Dorothy requested donations to Kingston Congregational Church as a memorial.
