Dorothy May (Smith) Jackson, 85, of Wakefield passed away on November 26, 2008. She leaves her loving husband of 64 years, Walter Jackson. She was the beloved mother of her children, Walter, John, and Judy and the late Kathryn, grandmother of Scott, Kathryn, Ben, Ryan, and Regan. She was a great grandmother to Caden and Ava. Born on July 7, 1923, the daughter of the late George and Nellie (Huband) Smith and the sister of George and Raymond, she grew up and raised her children in Nutley, N.J. She was an active member of Saint Paul’s Congregational Church and involved in all of her children’s activities. The family loved camping and traveling together. After retiring, they moved to RI into their 18th Century home. Not one to relax, she continued her volunteer work for the women’s shelter and FISH. Summers were spent raising flowers and helping with the farm. She enjoyed activities at the Senior Center and could always be counted on to donate hand made items. She was always there to unselfishly help others whether they were family, friends, or those in need. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, January 3, 2009 at 1:00 PM at St. Andrew Lutheran Church, 15 East Beach Rd., Charlestown, RI. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the St. Paul’s Congregational Church Memorial Fund, 10 St. Paul’s Place, Nutley, NJ 07110.
