Dorothy Swanson Houghton

Dorothy (Swanson) Houghton, 103, a resident of Narragansett for the past 40 years, passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 28th, 2014 at the Scallop Shell Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. She was the beloved wife of the late Montafix Wilson Houghton, Jr. Born in Providence, she was a daughter of the late August and Matilda (Johnson) Swanson. Before retiring, Dorothy was very successful, as one of the first female Real Estate agents in RI, working for Kelly & Picerne Realty. She was the beloved mother of Nancy Y. Vale and her husband David of Cumberland and Montafix Wilson Houghton, III and his wife Michelle of Warwick; she also is survived by seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Visiting hours will be at the Avery-Storti Funeral Home Monday, July 7, 2014 from 10- 12 Noon, followed by a funeral service at 12 Noon. Burial will be private.
