Dorothy Ann Curry, 77, of Narragansett, RI, passed away peacefully at her home on Tuesday, October 10, 2023 surrounded by her loved ones. She was a beautiful, intelligent, warm, and charming woman, a loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, niece, cousin, daughter and dear friend to many.
Dottie, the second daughter of Rose Marie and Joseph Somogyi, was born and raised in New York City. She began her career there, married and started her family with her former husband, Andrew Curry. After falling in love with South County during their summers here, Dottie and her family moved to Narragansett in 1981. Dottie treasured her time at the beach and loved swimming in the Narragansett waters. She was an accomplished and generous hostess who enjoyed opening her home to countless family and friends during the summer holidays.
Dorothy received her bachelor’s degree from the University of Rhode Island, and after a career in real estate and the private sector, she found a second calling teaching English as a Second Language. She completed her Master of Education at Rhode Island College and went on to teach for many years in the Providence Public Schools system before retiring.
Dottie was selfless in caring for her family and friends. She is survived by her three sons, Anthony, Joseph and his wife, Tracy, and her youngest son, Matthew; her sisters Rose Marie Hurrell, Mary Ann Perrothers and Jo Ann Rubing; and her six grandchildren Ian, Grace, Sophie, Cathleen, Luke and Brigid.
Visiting hours will be on Monday, October 16, 2023, from 4-6 pm at the Avery-Storti Funeral Home, 88 Columbia St., Wakefield. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, October 17, 2023 from 10:00am at Christ the King Church,180 Old North Rd, Kingston, RI. Burial will follow at St. Francis Cemetery.
