Dorothy Tucker Browning

Dorothy (TUCKER) Browning, 93, of Ministerial Rd., Wakefield, passed away peacefully at home with family Monday January 17, 2011. She was the wife of the late Lester S. Browning Sr., for fifty years. Born in Providence, RI to Howard Winfield and Marion Louise (Kent) Tucker on March 5, 1917. Mrs. Browning was a graduate of South Kingstown High School class of 1935, Brown University, BA class of 1939, Bryant College of Business, BSS class of 1941 and University of RI, MA class of 1964. She worked as a secretary for US Ring and Traveler Co and Starkweather and Shepley in Providence during WW II and retired as a South Kingstown Elementary School Teacher in 1982 after twenty-three years. She was a life long member of Peace Dale Congregational Church and former deaconess and couples club member. She served on the South Kingstown Recreation Commission. She is survived by a daughter, Marilyn T. Browning of Wakefield; a son, Barry Hale Browning and his wife Ann of Hickory, NC and a grandson, Kent Charles Browning of Hickory, NC. She was mother of the late L. Scott Browning Jr. Visiting hours Sunday 1-3 PM in the Avery-Storti Funeral Home, 88 Columbia St., Wakefield. A Memorial service will be Saturday February 12th at 10:00 AM in the Peace Dale Congregational Church, 261 Columbia St., Peace Dale. In lieu of flowers, donations to Salvation Army.
