Dorothea "Sherry" Vieira

Dorothea Sherin (Sherry) Vieira, 101, of Wakefield, passed away on Tuesday, February 27, 2024. She was the beloved wife of the late Joseph A. Vieira. Born in Moline, IL, she was the daughter of the late Ethel Viola (Kessel) Robbins and Chester A. Robbins.

Sherry spent her childhood in Moline IL, moving to California after high school, where she worked for Lockheed. She met Joe there and they married in 1944. They soon moved to South Kingstown, Rhode Island in 1950 and lived in East Matunuck. Sherry was the secretary/administrator of Matunuck Elementary School for 22 years. She loved crossword puzzles, card games, and she was a force to be reckoned with in bridge and Scrabble. An excellent cook, she was especially known for her many kinds of pies. Sherry was a wonderful mother, and her favorite thing was to spend time with her family. She was happiest when they were all together. She will be missed.

She leaves behind her children, Carol Jo Roeder of Columbia, MD, John (Jack) Robbins Vieira, Woodland Hills, CA, Jane Marvel Vieira, Narragansett, RI, Peter Mark Vieira, Charlestown, RI, as well as their spouses. She also leaves behind 8 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.

Visitation will be held on Friday, August 9, 2024, from 4 pm to 6 pm in Avery Storti Funeral Home, 88 Columbia St. Wakefield, RI. A memorial mass will be held on Saturday, August 10, 2024, at 10 am in St. Francis of Assisi Church, 114 High St, South Kingstown, RI. Burial will follow at Rhode Island Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Exeter.
