“A Very Special Lady” Doris E. Colburn, 87, of South Kingstown, passed away peacefully on Monday. March 28, 2011. She was the wife of the late Richard W. Colburn. Born in Johnston, RI, she was the daughter of the late Albert E. and Alice (Sefton) Parker. Mrs. Colburn was a member of St. Peter’s by-the-Sea Episcopal Church, Narragansett. She leaves her daughters, Joyce Noonan and her husband Patrick, Beverly Clark and her husband Louis, Priscilla Durant and her husband Richard all of Wakefield; her son, Roger Colburn and his wife Donna of Punta Gorda, FL; mother of the late Bruce Colburn; grandmother of Christine Loyko, Scott Newell, Jeffrey, Jennifer and Jodi Clark, Adam, Christy and Gregory Durant and Erik Colburn and great grandmother of eight. She was the sister of the late Albert E. Parker, Jr. Prior to raising five children, Doris was an employee of Mass Mutual and later a service rep at McKesson and Robbins. She was very active in Scouting, PTO, Episcopal Church Youth Groups and Altar Guild as well as a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. She was a master at crossword puzzles and scrabble and her hobbies included knitting, crocheting and braiding rugs. Her legacy of a strong faith, her strength, courage and nurturing way, along with a wonderful smile and sense of humor was and will always be a constant source of comfort to her loving family. A Requiem Eucharist will be celebrated Monday, April 4, at 11:00 AM in St. Peter’s by- the- Sea Episcopal Church, 72 Central St., Narragansett. Visiting hours Sunday 3-5 PM in the Avery-Storti Funeral Home, 88 Columbia St., Wakefield. Burial will be in New Fernwood Cemetery, Kingston. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Peter’s by-the-Sea Episcopal Church.
