Doris Sheldon Blaney

June 21, 1921 — February 22, 2015

Doris Sheldon Blaney of Narragansett, passed away on Sunday, February 22, 2015 at age 93. She was the wife of late Russell W. Blaney and daughter of the late Lincoln S. and Lenora Lewis Sheldon. Born in Providence, Doris was a life-long resident of South County. Doris, a graduate of East Providence High School, enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in 1944. She later worked for the Town of Narragansett, eventually becoming the Town Treasurer. She was an original member of The Club, an enthusiastic Cub Scout Den Mother for Narragansett Pack 1, and member of the VFW # Post 916 Wakefield. Doris enjoyed gardening, antiques, genealogy, arts and crafts of all kinds, including cross stitch and knitting. Most recently she could be found at the South Kingstown Farmer’s Market selling custom knitted gloves. She is survived by five children, Jonathan L. Blaney, and wife Sarah of Wakefield, David R. Blaney of South Kingstown and companion Kendel Currier of New Hampshire, Stephen W. Blaney and wife Sheryl of Arizona, Mark S. Blaney and wife Deborah Gordon of South Kingstown, and Linda E. Blaney and companion Ben Rhodes of Exeter; six grandsons, Nathan Blaney and wife Kathy, Patrick Blaney and wife Lisa, Christian Blaney and wife Cathy, Timothy Blaney, Wesley Blaney and wife Jill, and Josh Blaney; six granddaughters, Allyson DeKoekkoek and husband Jordan, Megan Blaney and fiance Shannon O'Leary, Annie Gordon, Jenny Gordon, Katherine Balmforth and fiance Doug, Sarah Balmforth; thirteen great-grandchildren; and loving friends Christine Blaney, Anne-Marie Davis, Karen Blaney, and Jeanne Blaney. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Celebration of Life on March 14, noon to four o’clock at the Elks Lodge, 60 Belmont Ave., Wakefield, RI. A Memorial Service will be celebrated at the same location between three and four o'clock. If you wish, memorial contributions may be made to Operation Stand Down Rhode Island, osdri.org.
