Donald K. Wilson of Wakefield, died Tuesday. He was the devoted husband of the late Julia Ann (McKeon) Wilson. Born in New York, NY, he was a son of the late William Francis and Amy Lillian (Crowne) Wilson. Don fell in love with science as a boy and earned degrees in Electrical Engineering and a doctorate in Physics. He spent his career as a Physicist at Bell Laboratories in New Jersey. He was also a proud U.S. Navy Veteran of World War II serving on destroyers in the Atlantic Theatre. He was a member of the South Kingstown Senior Center, St. Francis of Assisi Church, and the Board of the Osher Life-Long Learning Institute at URI. He had a deep interest in Catholic theology and enjoyed spending time at Providence College. He is survived by three sons, Bryan Wilson of Block Island, Sean Wilson of Richmond, and Andrew Wilson of East Greenwich; four daughters, Suzanne Wilson of East Lansing, MI, Gwyneth Wilson of Providence, Jean Miller of Powell, TN and Kathryn Hilbert of Oak Park, IL; a brother, Roger Wilson of Rochester, NY; fifteen grandchildren and many step-grandchildren. He was the brother of the late Amy Crowne Hamilton. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10 AM Friday at St. Francis of Assisi Church, 114 High Street, Wakefield. Visiting hours are at the Avery-Storti Funeral Home, 88 Columbia Street, Wakefield, Thursday, 4-6 PM. Burial with military honors will be Saturday 1 PM, Island Cemetery, Block Island. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
