Donald F. O’Brien, 88, of Wakefield, died Sunday. He was the beloved husband of Virginia May (Conley) O’Brien for 66 years. Born in South Kingstown, he was a son of the late Harold and Isadore (Sherman) O’Brien. Mr. O’Brien was a supervisor at Electric Boat, Groton, CT for twenty years. During World War II he served in the United States Army Air Forces, achieving the rank of Staff Sergeant. He is survived by two sons, Patrick D. O’Brien (Susan) of Exeter and Kevin F O’Brien (Sharon) of North Carolina; and four grandchildren, Aaron, Alison, Callie, and Jenny. He was the brother of the late Virginia C. O’Brien. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday in St. Francis of Assisi Church, 114 High Street, Wakefield. Burial with military honors will follow in Rhode Island Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Exeter. Visiting hours are at the Avery-Storti Funeral Home 88 Columbia Street, Wakefield, Thursday 4-7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Animal Rescue League of Southern RI, PO Box 458, Wakefield, RI 02880.
