Donald A. Dragon, 82, of South Kingstown, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family on March 30, 2016 in Allen, TX. He was the husband of the late Janice A. Dragon for fifty five years. Born in Providence to the late Paul A. and Maude W. (South) Dragon. Mr. Dragon was a United States Air Force Veteran and retired after 23 years as a CMSGT. He then began a second career at the Dunes Club where he rose to become the General Manager and retired after 27 years. In his position at The Dunes Club, he served not only the members and staff, but also the local community. He was responsible for arranging the first Fire Fighters Ball, The South County Hospital Ball, The Narragansett High School Prom, and many other community functions, of which continue to be held at the Dunes Club today. This allowed the community to enjoy the club and the organizations noticed an increase in attendance and fundraising. He was also a board member of the South Kingstown Elks Club, a member of the Club Managers Association, and an active member of the Wakefield Baptist Church. He was a respected figure in the community and beyond for his ability to connect with people. He and his wife were involved with the Boys and Girls Clubs of Providence and Connecting for Children and Families in Woonsocket. Together with his wife, he enjoyed volunteering for Seniors Helping Others, in a literacy program teaching adults to read, and helping local preschools at which his daughter worked. He will always be affectionately remembered as “Papa Dragon” by the many children of The Magical Dragon Family Child Care. Donald was a lifelong Red Sox and Patriots fan. He and his wife’s first date was at a double header Red Sox game. He met Robert Kraft in October 2015 at the Cowboys vs. Patriots game in Dallas.
