Donald F. Burgess

Donald F. Burgess, 98, of Kingston, died Friday, September 2, 2011 at Elmhurst Extended Care, Providence. He was the beloved husband of Elise (Butler) Burgess, his high school sweetheart. Mr. Burgess graduated from East Providence High School in 1931 and then married Elise. He served in 28th Division of the Army during WW II seeing campaigns in the Ardennes, Central Europe and the Rhineland. Mr. Burgess was a salesman for the H.A. Johnson Company for over fifty years, retiring at the age of 81. For over fifty years, he was actively engaged in the work of the United Methodist Church in Norwalk, CT, Woodbury, CT and Christ United Methodist Church in Kingston. Mr. Burgess lived a life filled with love, laughter and many friends. He will be remembered for his kindness, generosity and devotion to family, friends and faith. Besides his wife he is survived by a son and daughter in law, Douglas and Shannon Burgess of Kingston; three grandchildren, Shawn Dallesandro of Naples, FL, Douglas Burgess, Jr. of Brooklyn, NY and Andrew Burgess of Kingston; two step-children, Yvonne Bingaman and Scott Forcier, of New Jersey; and two great grandchildren, Brianna Soviero and Alex Soviero, of New Jersey. He was the father of the late Donald W. Burgess. A funeral service will be held Friday, September 23, 2011 at 11 AM in the Christ United Methodist Church, 2291 Kingstown Road, Kingston, RI. Burial with military honors will follow in the Rhode Island Veterans Cemetery, Exeter. Visiting hours are respectfully omitted.
