Domenic F. Capalbo, Jr., 78, a lifelong Wakefield resident, passed away Thursday, October 20th with his son by his side. He was predeceased earlier this year by his wife of 49 years, Aileen T. (Burke) Capalbo. Born on December 1, 1937, he was a son of the late Domenic and Lea (Salerno) Capalbo. He is survived by a son and his wife, David and Gina, his two grandchildren, Antonio and Maria; a sister and her husband, Joyce and Robert Shiels; 4 nephews/nieces, Christopher, Michael, Matthew and Domenique Shiels. He was the brother of the late Dennis Capalbo. Mr. Capalbo graduated from South Kingstown High School in 1956 before enlisting in the United States Army. He later graduated from the University of Rhode Island, where he played baseball and football, and then from Bryant College. Mr. Capalbo was a retired Senior Narcotics Inspector for the Rhode Island Division of Drug Control, South Kingstown Police Officer and Security Captain at Newport Grand. As an avid New York Yankees fan, he enjoyed spending time with his family, eating at local restaurants, playing/coaching/watching sports, talking politics and traveling. The funeral will be 9am Tuesday from the Avery-Storti Funeral Home, 88 Columbia Street in Wakefield, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10am in Saint Francis of Assisi Church, 114 High Street in Wakefield. Burial will follow at Saint Francis Cemetery. Visiting hours are Monday 4-7pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the North Kingstown FOP #33, P.O. Box 276, North Kingstown, RI 02852, or to a charity of one’s choice.
