Dolores Maria Chadwick

Dolores Maria Pender Chadwick, 91 of Exeter died October 6 at Greenwich Farms in Warwick. Born in Pottstown, Pennsylvania to the late James and Margaret (Culligan) Pender. Dolores was predeceased by her her husband of 66 years James W. Chadwick, Jr and her 6 brothers and 3 sisters; Harold, George, David, James, John, and William Pender, Eleanor Lare, Margaret Laughlin, and Dorothy Friend. She is survived by her daughters: Helen Pintrick (Jeffrey) of Michigan, Nancy Taylor (the late Robert) of Exeter and Kathleen Egan (Patrick) of South Kingstown, 6 grandchildren; Nathan Taylor (Keely), Jessica Gurnon (Kyle), Laura Taylor, Emily Pintrick, Sean Egan, Colin Egan, and two great grandchildren who she dearly loved. Dolores graduated from Preston Maternity Hospital LVN program in 1949 and she was a proud obstetrical nurse at the hospital that served poor and indigent women. She continued in the medical field in the late 1950-early 1960s at Davis Memorial Hospital in Elkins, West Virginia. Following the familys move to Rhode Island in 1965 Dolores became the Stores Clerk for the Department of Zoology at the University of Rhode Island; mothering graduate students and keeping professors in line throughout her 28 year career. She was awarded the University of Rhode Island Staff Excellence Award in 1986. Dolores was proud of her Irish heritage; her mother immigrating to the United States from Killkee, County Clare. She will be remembered for her feistiness, quick wit and sense of humor. Dolores never hesitated to volunteer in helping others. She was a 53 year member of St. Augustines Chapel, Kingston, and held many volunteer positions in the church. She was member of the former URI Business and Professional Womens Club and was the RI Business and Professional Womens Club President in 1980. She was a volunteer for the Washington County Chapter of American Heart Association, a volunteer for Hospice RI South County, RI Cancer Society, as well as the Friends of the Exeter Public Library. A Requiem Eucharist will be held at St. Augustines Chapel, Kingston on Saturday, October 13th at 10 am. Burial will be at a later date in Mount Vernon Cemetery, Boxford MA where she will rest with her late husband. Visiting hours are Friday, October 12th from 4-7 pm at Avery-Storti Funeral Home, Wakefield. In lieu of flowers, donations to St. Augustine Chapel, 15 Lower College Road, Kingston RI 02881 or Beacon Hospice, 1130 Ten Rod Road, Suite C104, North Kingstown, RI 02852 are appreciated. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to staff in the Harbor Unit at Greenwich Farms in Warwick and Beacon Hospice for the love and care they gave Dolores.
