Diann Harnden Browning 88, of Jamestown, Rhode Island, passed away peacefully on August 25, 2025, at Tockwotton on the Waterfront in East Providence, RI. She was born on April 23, 1937 in Boston, Massachusetts. Diann was the daughter of the late Andrew and Emily (April) Harnden.
She was raised in South Kingstown, RI, a community she loved and spent most of her life in. A graduate of South Kingstown High School, Diann later pursued numerous college courses to advance her professional ambitions. She worked as a laboratory technician in the Microbiology Department at the University of Rhode Island, where her dedication and diligence earned her the respect of colleagues and students alike.
Later, alongside her beloved husband Frank Browning, she became a long time co-owner and Innkeeper of the Larchwood in Wakefield, RI. It was here she developed the warmth, kindness, and generosity of spirit, that would remain the hallmarks of her life. Diann was proud to welcome family, friends, and guests to the Larchwood, a cherished community institution, where she extended her gift of making all feel welcome.
She also enjoyed shopping, traveling, the ocean, and above all, spending time with family and friends.
Diann was a devoted member of Saint Matthew’s Episcopal Church, where she nurtured her faith and found joy in community.
She is pre-deceased by her husband Frank Browning, her sister Jean H. Niles Knight and her daughter Saadia Pease Cicerone.
Diann leaves behind, daughter, Mary Ellen Pease Madsen, son, Edward Monroe Joseph Pease III and daughter-in-law, Patricia Hussey Pease, and son Christopher Andrew Harnden Pease. In addition Diann leaves her grandchildren, Derek, Justin, Lauren, Hanna, Laura Lee, Annie, Connor, Joseph, nephews Andrew and Curtis, a niece Elizabeth, and several great-grandchildren.
She will be remembered as a kind, friendly and caring soul who made everyone she encountered feel special.
A service in celebration of her life will be held at Saint Matthew’s Episcopal Church, 87 Narragansett Ave, Jamestown, RI 02835, on Wednesday, September 3, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. immediately followed by refreshments in the Church Hall.
A burial service at New Fernwood Cemetery in Kingston, RI will follow at 2 p.m.
