Diane H. Dexter

February 12, 1928 — September 10, 2022

Diane Healey Dexter, 94, of Wakefield, died on Saturday, September 10th. She was the beloved wife of the late Arthur W. Dexter. Born in South Kingstown, she was the daughter of the late Horace D. and Dorothy (Morse) Healey. Diane was a graduate of the first nursing class of the University of Rhode Island. She had decided to enroll in a baccalaureate program at 17 that was newly offered to women who were seeking to attain a higher education. She started her career at South County Hospital, later becoming a Maternal Child Health Coordinator for Washington County. Working as a clinician, she assessed a broad spectrum of children. Her favorite part of her job was visiting newborn babies at home, which produced some pretty interesting stories she told!

It’s an understatement to say Diane was an avid reader. It became almost impossible to find her a book she hadn’t read. She also spent a few years researching her genealogy and posting both sides of her family trees. She enjoyed Civil War information, tracing back to her ancestor who died in that war in Vicksburg, Mississippi. In addition, Diane never stopped loving to cook and passed down many great family recipes. She also loved traveling with her husband to see new or favorite places.

Diane is survived by and will be missed by her daughter, Cheryl Resmini of Wakefield, her son, Peter and his wife, Daphne Dexter of Coventry, her daughter, Robin Dexter of Hopkinton, and her daughter, Jacquelyn and her husband, Henry Thacher III of Wakefield. Diane was a caring and wonderful grandmother who will be truly missed by her granddaughters, Adriane Resmini of Wakefield, Stephanie Resmini of Warwick, Dianne Thacher of Coventry, her step grandson, Henry Thacher IV of North Kingstown, her step granddaughter, Christine Thacher of Florida, and her great granddaughter, Scarlett Rose Ragosta of Warwick.

All funeral services for Diane will be private.
