It is with deep sorrow and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Debra Lynn (Nadolny) Holdredge, age 68, who left us unexpectedly on November 8, 2025.
Born on January 1, 1957, in South Kingstown, Rhode Island, Debra lived her entire life in South County. She proudly earned her Bachelor's Degree in Women's Studies from the University of Rhode Island in 1986 as a young mom, an accomplishment that reflected her hard work and determination. Debra dedicated many years to raising her three children, as well as to her work in early childhood care and education, various retail positions, and finally a 16-year career at the Narragansett Library. There, she enjoyed serving her community and connecting with her regular patrons before retiring in 2022. She was raised in the Catholic church and was most recently a member of the St. Francis of Assisi Parish in Wakefield.
Debra was a true South County girl, and was happiest when near the ocean or at the beach. She enjoyed: tea, long phone chats, good stories, gardening, visits to Boston, cheering for the Red Sox, watching General Hospital (and occasionally napping through Survivor), the color blue, a good book, holidays, family gatherings, and planning adventures and trips. She loved music and attending live shows, especially Bruce Springsteen and Southside Johnny, which brought her and her husband David together. She had a special connection to the Virgin Mary, and a lifelong affection for her many, many, Siamese cats.
Above all though, Debra's greatest joy was her family. She was a devoted wife, sister, friend, mother, and Nan to her beloved grandchildren, whom she loved to the moon and back. She gave everything she had to being the best mom and Nan. She was there for every event and special moment, always there in the crowd, beaming with pride. She was also there for all the regular everyday moments, and for the tough, hard moments. No matter what, she was there - a safe harbor in the storm, there to listen, to provide support, to give encouragement. Her love, wisdom, and hugs will never be forgotten, and will be deeply missed.
Debra is survived by her loving husband, David Brousseau, who will forever hold her memory close to his heart. She is also survived by her children: Shawna B. Smith and her husband Ryan of North Kingstown, RI; Breck L. Holdredge and his wife Desiree of Edgartown, MA; and Danalyn Holdredge of Warwick, RI; as well as her beloved grandchildren including Jesse, Myla, Mariner, and Saylor. She also leaves behind her dear sister Johanna S. Varas of Grant, FL; her niece and nephews; extended family; the father of her children, Micheal Holdredge; and several lifelong friends.
She was predeceased by her parents, Sophie A. (Cekala) Nadolny and Vincent J. Nadolny, and her big brother, Vincent J. Nadolny Jr.
Debra leaves behind a lifetime of cherished memories and a love that will live on in all who knew her.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Debra's name to American Diabetes Association.
