Deborah E. Debbie Durfee

November 10, 1949 — December 14, 2012

Deborah E. “Debbie” Durfee, 63, of Wakefield, died Friday. She was the beloved wife of Lawson W. Durfee for 38 years. Born in South Kingstown, she was a daughter of the late Harry and Mildred (Knowles) Whaley. She will be remembered for having a passion for her family and grandchildren, and enjoyed spending time with all of them. Mrs. Durfee was the former owner of Something Special in Charlestown, co-owner and co-founder of Cheese n Things in Wakefield, an Assistant Manager of the Ground Round in North Kingstown and Edible Pursuits in Kingston. An outdoor enthusiast, she loved hiking, camping, white water rafting, paddle boarding and kayaking. Besides her husband she is survived by five children, Brian Burnham of Spencer, MA, Rachael Louzon and her husband Chris of West Kingston, William Durfee of Wakefield, Christian Durfee of Kona, Hawaii, and Julie Ann Bisselle of New Russia, NY; five grandchildren; a brother, Harry Rowley Whaley of South Kingstown; and two sisters, Jeanne Mason of Riverside and Carol Ferrer of Cranston. She was the sister of the late John Whaley and William “Billy” Whaley. Visiting hours will be at the Avery-Storti Funeral Home, 88 Columbia Street, Wakefield, Friday 5-8 PM. A private memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers the family kindly requests to make a donation to a charity of one’s choice.
