David L. Terry, 71, of Wakefield, passed away peacefully on Monday, November 27, 2017 at Hallworth House in Providence. He was the loving husband of Jan (Miltenberger) Terry for 49 years. Born in New York City and raised in Louisville, KY, he was the son of Betty Jane (Lambert) Mills of Louisville, KY and the late Ernest A. Terry, Jr. David was a lieutenant in the United States Navy during the Vietnam conflict. He received his Bachelors degree from DePauw University in IN and his Masters degree in accounting from the University of Rhode Island. He worked as a CPA for several years then began his longer career in hospital finance at South County Hospital followed by over 20 years with Care New England. During his career he mentored co-workers enabling them to achieve a higher level of excellence. He was an active member of St. Augustines Episcopal Church in Kingston and St. Peters Church in Rockland, Maine. He served on many boards including Hallworth House and he was on the Finance Committee of the Rhode Island Episcopal Diocese. David was a member of the Windjammer Barber Shop chorus in Camden, Maine. He enjoyed the outdoors, bird watching, skiing, sea kayaking, brewing beer, and restoring cast iron pans. He was a loyal kind friend to many, known for his sense of humor and his generosity. He was the loving father of Joseph Alden Terry and his fianc Julie McClure of Somerville, MA and the late Jennifer Lynn Terry; brother of Jonathan C. Terry and his wife Mary Anne of Louisville, KY, Judith A. (Terry) Stilwell and her husband Gene of Linden, TN, Michael A. Terry and his wife Betsy of Indianapolis, IN, , Barbara (Mills) Larrain and her husband Barry M. of Portland, OR, James W. Mills and his wife Cathy of Montgomery, AL, Richard C. Mills and his wife Kathy of Prospect, KY, and Carol (Mills) Medley and her husband Joseph of Louisville, KY. David also had many lifelong deep friendships. A Memorial service will be held on Saturday, December 9, 2017 at 12:30 pm in St. Augustine Episcopal Church, 15 Lower College Road, Kingston with a reception to follow. Visiting hours will be held on Friday, December 8, 2017 from 4-7pm in Avery-Storti Funeral Home, Wakefield. Donations may be made to Rhode Island Episcopal Charities, https://www.episcopalri.org/.
