David James Smith

David James Smith, 52, formerly of Beverly MA, passed away suddenly on Tuesday, December 3, 2013 at his home in Narragansett. Dave was born an avid Everton soccer fan, in Liverpool, England on March 15, 1961 to the late Joan and Kevin (Kev) Smith of Liverpool, England. While growing up, he was an avid soccer player, was as mischievous as the day was long and remained so until his last day. He graduated from secondary school in 1976. He began his career as a Junior Chef at the Royal Insurance and studied cooking at the Colquitt Street Technical College. On March 15th, 1983 he moved to the United States and eventually became a U.S. Citizen. His career in the restaurant industry took him to Hyannis, Ft. Lauderdale, San Diego, and Beverly, MA, where he achieved his dream of owning an Irish Pub, Fibber Magee’s. He moved to Narragansett, RI in August, 2012 and started a power washing and window cleaning business, “Lovely Windows by the Lads”. He knew the United States and its history better than most, and loved to meet and engage with new people everywhere he went. Dave was an avid Red Sox fan, and he lived every day as if it was his last. Dave loved life and his love and loyalty for his lifelong friends was unsurpassed. Dave is survived by his fiancée, Liz Pendergast of Narragansett, RI, his cousin Phillip Carolan and his wife Mary of Kenya, Africa and their children Whitney, Keisha, and Nathan. He is also survived by his cousin John Carolan of Liverpool, England. Visiting hours will be held on Thursday, December 12, 2013 from 6 p.m. - 8 p.m. at Avery-Storti Funeral Home, 88 Columbia Street, Wakefield, RI . A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Friday, December 13th, at Christ the King Church, 180 Old North Road, Kingston. RI Dave was closely aligned with the S.J.Korumpas Scholarship Fund , which awards a yearly scholarship to a student in need who will be attending Salem State College, Salem MA.
