David Raymond Shields, 76, of Coaldale, Colorado passed away on July 8, 2014 at his residence. He was born October 5,1937 in Monte Vista, Colorado to Woodrow Wilson and Buddy Bell (Foster) Shields. He graduated from Cotopaxi High School and entered the US Coast Guard in 1956. He married Renee (Bell) Shields on November 9, 1958. He is survived by his wife, Renee, their two sons and their wives; Randy and Carline Shields, of Wakefield, Rhode Island and Dale and Kathy Shields, of Salisbury, Massachusetts. He is also survived by three brothers with their wives, of Colorado. In addition he is survived by four grandchildren; Kenny, Zachary, Amy, and Nicholas Shields. He enjoyed riding horses and was active in the Little League. He was a member of the Wakefield Elks Lodge and a Past-Exalted Ruler of the Salida Elks. Dave served 27 years in the USCG and was a Master Chief Boatswain's Mate at Point Judith Lighthouse, as well as a Veteran of the Vietnam War. A graveside service will be held on Thursday, July 17, 2014 at 10:00 at Coaldale Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Elks Lodge of Salida, Colorado.
