Obituary

David August Mitchell of Narragansett, 86, a man of steady hands, strong convictions, and a lifelong commitment to his craft, passed away peacefully in his home on April 11, 2026.

A proud Army Captain and veteran of the Vietnam War, David’s service to his country was a defining chapter of his life. Through the years, he found great joy in staying connected with fellow service members across the country. Whether driving to Florida or navigating local roads, David was never afraid of a detour if it meant sitting down with an old friend or a brother-in-arms he hadn't seen in forty years.

As a Master Electrician, David’s work was more than a job; it was a mentorship. Over his long career, he shared his knowledge with many guiding apprentices who would go on to become Master Electricians themselves. His legacy lives on in the many tradesmen he worked with, trained and the countless projects he completed with precision and pride.

David was never one to sit idle—he loved his Corvette, his tools, and always had a new project in motion. He also took pride in his self-proclaimed status as a "hacker," often returning home with a discarded PC or printer to troubleshoot and get running again. While technology sometimes moved faster than he did in his 80s, he was never happier than when he was tinkering with a motherboard or proving he could still conquer a stubborn piece of electronics.

For the last several decades, David’s heart and home were centered on his beloved life partner, the late Jane Ferraro, whom he met in kindergarten. He was her devoted companion, providing steady care and support through her health challenges, including her frequent dialysis appointments. Actions for which her children and grandchildren will be forever grateful.

A man of routine and loyalty, David looked forward to his weekly traditions. He could be found daily on the phone checking in with lifelong childhood friends. He met weekly for breakfast and lunch gatherings with close friends, time spent enjoying the simple, honest conversation he valued most. Though he was known for a certain gruffness, those within his inner circle knew he was a man who cared deeply and was always there to lend a helping hand.

David was predeceased by his parents, David Albert Mitchell and Ida Boldt Mitchell; his sister, June Ann Tully and his life partner, Jane Ferraro;

He is survived by his sister, Joyce Emma Power; his children, Gregory S. Mitchell and Kimberly Mitchell; and his stepchildren, Dawn Myers (Vincent Carvalho) and Eric Myers. He is also survived by his cherished grandchildren, Lily Bosack, Sasha Bosack, and Delilah Fournier; as well as many nieces and nephews, including Robert and Bradley Power, and James, David, and Sheila Ann Tully.

Services will be private, and he will be interred at the Rhode Island Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Exeter. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the National Kidney Foundation.
