David J. Decubellis

David J. DeCubellis, 66, passed away Monday, August 18, 2014, surrounded by his family and his friends. Born in Wakefield, he was the son of the late James N. and Evelyn (Kelley) DeCubellis. Dave was a 1966 graduate of South Kingstown High School and attended U.R.I. He served in the US Marines during Vietnam and was a recipient of several medals including the Purple Heart. He was a Lt. with the RI State Police where he worked for twenty two years before retiring. In 1971 he co-founded with his father Jim’s Dock, Marina & Restaurant in Jerusalem, where he could often be found being the official greeter and “maintenance man” and spending time with his sketchy friends. Jim’s Dock was an important part of Dave’s life and one of his greatest accomplishments. He was the founder of Succotash Boat Yard and responsible for building many docks and installing many moorings in Salt Pond. He was the former husband of Susan (George) DeCubellis and the late Lori (Hoffman) DeCubellis; companion of Sue Crooker; father of Lona Hoffman of Wakefield, Niki (DeCubellis) Sprague and her husband Paul of Jamestown, David DeCubellis II and his wife Mallory of Little Compton, and Justin Hoffman and his wife Alison of Charlestown; brother of Nancy (Kelly) DeCubellis of Charlestown; loving grandfather of Kylie and Luke Hoffman, Grace and Isla DeCubellis, Spencer and Riley Sprague. The funeral will be held Friday at 11:00 a.m. in The Avery-Storti Funeral Home, 88 Columbia St., Wakefield. Burial with military honors will be in the RI Veterans Cemetery, Exeter.
