Daniel C. Balicki

Daniel C. Balicki, 78, of Westerly passed away on Thursday, February 16, 2023, surrounded by family. He was the loving husband of Phyllis (Soja) Balicki for almost 53 years. Born in Holyoke, Massachusetts, he was the son of the late Chester and Nellie (Bulat) Balicki.

Daniel earned his master’s degree at St. Anselmm/Westfield State and later played basketball for Gillette and Standards of Belgium in the European league, comprising seven countries. He worked as a teacher, coach, and athletic director at Stonington Middle and High Schools for 25 years. Daniel coached outstanding teams at Cathedral and Putnam in Springfield, Massachusetts in basketball, baseball, and football. He enjoyed landscaping, golfing, and boating.

Later in his life, Daniel volunteered for the Westerly fire department and fire police. Daniel will be remembered by his family as being an avid Red Sox, Patriots, and Celtics Fan.

Besides his wife, Daniel leaves behind his two sons, Aaron Balicki, Matthew Balicki (Amy), grandchildren, Mackenzie Balicki, Alex Balicki and Martin Balicki, great-grandchildren, Jack Balicki and Mila Balicki, sister, Marcia Yankowski (Richard) and many nieces and nephews.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.

A special thanks to the Westerly Ambulance Corps, the skilled and compassionate nurses and physicians at Rhode Island Hospital, Neuro ICU, and especially to Dr. Fox.
