Obituary

Dale N. Swope (92) passed peacefully on February 10, 2026 with family at his side. He was born in Dresden, OH, on December 25, 1933. Dale was a graduate of Zanesville High School, Zanesville, Ohio and Miami University, Oxford, Ohio. He married Cynthia A. Heinzen, a fellow Miami University graduate, in 1956. They began their 69 years of marriage in Fairbanks, Alaska where he served in the US Army. Most recently, Dale has resided in Wakefield, RI since the passing of Cynthia, June 16, 2025.

Dale had a successful and fulfilling career in accounting and finance as a licensed CPA and worked for Ford Motor Company, Detroit, MI; Ernst & Ernst, Cleveland, OH; Harris Corporation, Cleveland, OH and Melbourne, FL; American Standard, Pittsburgh, PA; and R.D. Werner, Greenville, PA.

Throughout his life, he enjoyed playing competitive tennis, golf, billiards and bridge. An accomplished sailor, he and Cynthia embarked on a three-month solo trip up the intercoastal waterway from Punta Gorda to the Chesapeake Bay. Dale's life was dedicated to his family and their happiness and leaves them with memories of family vacations and quiet times at home.

Dale is survived by his 3 children, Donna Swope Wieters (Bill) Wakefield, RI; John Swope (Linda) Powder Springs, GA; and Karen Skerlong (Paul) Akron, OH; and 5 grandchildren, Kelsey, Emily, Nicole, Michael and Jenny.

In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Greenville Area Public Library or St. Paul's Without Walls program. The family would especially like to thank Wakefield, Rhode Island senior facilities including Brookdale South Bay, Elderwood of Scallop Shell and HopeHealth Hospice Care. To honor Dale's wishes, there will be no services.
