Cynthia J. Swanson

April 29, 1953 — October 6, 2018

Cynthia J. Swanson, 65, of South Kingstown, passed away Saturday, Oct. 6, at South County Hospital, surrounded by loving family and friends, after a long, brave battle with breast cancer. She was the wife of Eric Swanson, and daughter of Geraldine M. Smith and Harold H. Smith (deceased). In addition to her husband, she is survived by daughters Cassidy Swanson and significant other Eric Smith of Concord, NH, and Lea and husband James Aruilio of Chicago, IL. She also is survived by sisters Nancy and husband John Jordan and Maureen Lawton, nephews Matthew and Michael Jordan, niece Savannah Rose Lawton, and great-nieces Ellie and Emmy Jordan. Cindy was a loving mother, sister, daughter, aunt and wife, and dear friend to many. She was a longtime employee of South County Hospital as an X-ray technologist and also worked for a time at the hospital as a mammographer. Before her career in diagnostic imaging, Cindy was a secretary at Narragansett High School. Cindy was born in Warwick and grew up primarily in northern New Jersey. She was a graduate of Lakeland Regional High School in Wanaque, NJ, and of the radiologic technology education program at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston. Cindy and her husband loved traveling, visiting Ireland, taking a river cruise in Europe and spending months during the winter in south Florida, but loved to be in Rhode Island, either on Block Island or just at home in South County, most of all. She loved spending summer days zipping around on her red motor scooter. Sounds of classic rock could often be heard coming from her home and she enjoyed going to concerts with loved ones. She was renowned among friends and family for mixing the perfect cosmopolitan martini. Her quick wit and kind heart will be missed and cherished by many for years to come. Visiting hours will be Wednesday, Oct. 10, at Avery-Storti Funeral Home in Wakefield from 4:00 to 7:00 PM, and Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Christ the King Church in Kingston at 10:00 AM on Thursday, Oct. 11. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations in Cindys name may be made to South County Hospital, Hope Hospice Care, or the Jimmy Fund.
