Curt Weibel

Curt Weibel, 91, of Wakefield, died Friday. He was the husband of the late Mary (Davis) Weibel. Born in South Kingstown, he was a son of the late Albert M. and Helen H. (Harvey) Weibel. Mr. Weibel worked for the Toyota Motor Company, and was proud of his many years of service to his customers. He was an Army Air Corp Bomber Pilot during WW II. He was shot down on his 13th mission over Berlin, and was able to successfully land his plane in Sweden, with no injury to himself or his crew. Mr. Weibel was one of the founding members of the Wakefield Rotary Club, and was active with them for several years. In his spare time he loved to play and watch golf. He is survived by three children, Robert Davis Weibel of Lititz, PA, Gregg Richard Weibel of Dillon, CO, and Ann W. Richards of Lansing, NY; a sister, Elizabeth Elmendorf of Madison, NJ; and many nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Harvey Weibel. A funeral service will be held at 10 AM Thursday at the Church of the Ascension, 370 Main Street, Wakefield. Burial with military honors will follow in Rhode Island Veterans Cemetery, Exeter. Visiting hours are at the Avery-Storti Funeral Home, 88 Columbia Street, Wakefield, Wednesday 4-7 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Wakefield Rotary Club Charitable Foundation, PO Box 382, Wakefield, RI 02880.
