Courtland C. Stanton III, 63, of Heatherglen Lane, Mystic, CT, died Sunday. He was the husband of Placida (Baton) Stanton. Born in Westerly, he was the son of Isabel L. (Perry) Stanton of Wakefield, RI and the late Courtland C. Stanton Jr. He was a member of the Narragansett Indian Tribe. Courtland was a graduate of South Kingstown High School and Johnson and Wales University. He worked as a social worker for South County Community Action, then in safety and security at the University of Rhode Island, where he worked for twenty eight years before retiring. He also worked as a dealer for Foxwoods Casino and as a social service director for the Narragansett Indian Tribe. While in high school and college he was a talented athlete and later an avid Dallas Cowboys and Los Angeles Lakers fan. Besides his wife and mother he leaves, his children Sean Stanton of North Kingstown, Cynthia Stanton of Wakefield, Dustin Peno of South Kingstown and John Lima of Narragansett; step children, Charles Goff of Pawcatuck, LaiLani Sisson of Las Vegas, and Jonathon Goff of Norwich, CT; sisters, Cynthia Sampson of Westerly, Debbie Stanton of Narragansett and the late Paula Stanton; ten grandchildren and four step grandchildren. The funeral will be held Thursday at 11:00 AM in the Avery-Storti Funeral Home, 88 Columbia St., Wakefield, RI. Burial will be in New Fernwood Cemetery, Kingston. Visiting hours are at the Avery-Storti Funeral Home, Wednesday, February 16th, from 5-8 PM.
