Constance Yvonne Hazard

Constance Yvonne (Yancey) Hazard of Peace Dale, RI passed peacefully on July 13, 2020 at the age of 83. Constance, often lovingly referred to as Nana or Miss Connie, was born on December 26th, 1936 in Norfolk, VA to Ruth Elizabeth Minnis Yancey and Eddie Marshall Yancey. Constance, second born of 8 children, was sister to Eddie Yancey Jr., Rudolph Ellsworth Yancey, Betty Lee Murphy, Harry Lee Yancey, Melvin Bernard Yancey, Curtis Ronald Yancey, and her one surviving sister, Patricia Anne Yancey. Constance is predeceased by her late husband Frederick Merrill Hazard Sr. She leaves behind her four children Frederick Merrill Hazard Jr., Millicent Iola Smalley, Andrea Michelle Hazard, Laurel Yvette Hazard; 8 grandchildren, James M. Walmsley, Tiffany L. Smalley, Shakeyla M. Hazard, Zachary F. Smalley, Faith A. Smalley, Frederick T. Hazard, Shane Morretti, and Violet E. Hazard; and 2 great granddaughters, Emma and Skye. She also leaves behind her great nephew Rosheed Faison. Constance was an educator at Cane Day Care Center for 20 years and went on to Mashantucket Pequot Child Development Center for 13 years. She had a true gift as an educator and love for all of the children she taught, over many generations within our community. Former students visited and contacted her often to keep her updated on their successes and progress in life. A graduate of URI, Constance stressed the importance of education and lifelong learning. Her hobbies included crafts and beading. She was an avid genealogist. She enjoyed keeping up with politics and watching Judge Judy in the afternoons. Unconditionally loving yet firm and resolute, Constance, Nana, Miss Connie will be sorely missed - forever in our hearts and memories. She was a lifelong Christian, Jesus is her Lord and Savior and she is now at rest in His arms. Visiting hours will be held in the Avery-Storti Funeral Home, 88 Columbia St., Wakefield, on Saturday, July 18, 2020, 1-3 pm followed by a private funeral service. Burial will follow in the Riverside Cemetery, Peace Dale.
