Constance Hurley Andrews

Constance Hurley Andrews, 86, of Matunuck, died Sunday. She was the beloved wife of the late Elliott Ellsworth Andrews. Born in Providence, she was a daughter of the late George and Marie Rose (Walsh) Hurley. She graduated from The Wheeler School in 1944, Brown University in 1948, and received her Master’s degree in Library Science from the University of Rhode Island in 1968. Mrs. Andrews served as a Reference Librarian and the Head of Periodicals at the Providence Public Library, where she worked for almost forty years, retiring in 1989. She was very active in her community serving on the Board of the Matunuck Community Association as secretary, volunteering her time with Seniors Helping Others, delivered books to shut-ins, provided transportation to those who needed it, and along with her husband, she was instrumental in starting the Welcome House. An active parishioner of St. Romuald Chapel, she was a Eucharistic Minister and Lector. Mrs. Andrews was past president of the Class of 1948 Brown University, the Pembroke Alumni Association, the St Aloysius Guild, and she is a former member of the Genesis Community. She is survived by two children, Charlotte Tabachini of Narragansett and Guy Andrews of Peace Dale; four grandchildren, John Elliott Andrews, Kayla Andrews, Nicholas Tabachini, and Andrew Tabachini. She was the sister of the late George Hurley. The funeral will be 8:45 a.m. Thursday from the Avery-Storti Funeral Home, 88 Columbia Street, Wakefield, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Romuald Chapel, Atlantic Avenue, Matunuck. Burial will follow in St. Francis Cemetery, Peace Dale. Visiting Hours are Wednesday, 4-7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in her memory to Brown University, PO Box, 1877, Providence, RI 02912.
