Clara Baud, 94, of Wakefield passed away Saturday, September 7, 2024, at Robert’s Health Center in North Kingstown surrounded by her family. She was the loving wife of her late husband, Charles Baud. Clara was born in East Providence, RI. She is preceded in death by her parents Gunnar and Freda (Aspinall) Carlson and her sister Barbara (Carlson) Christopher.
Clara grew up in Wakefield, RI and attended South Kingstown High School. She was employed at several local businesses, Howard Johnson John Deere, Wakefield Branch Company, JT’s Lumber and Kenyon’s Department Store. She enjoyed her work and being part of the community. More importantly, she enjoyed raising her family with her husband Charlie and spending time with cherished friends. Clara was always interested in what the family was involved with. She would enjoy listening to the adventures told by her children and granddaughters. As any loving proud Mom and Grandmother, she would offer wise, and at times funny, advice to all of us. Although seemingly quiet, she was always very observant and had a quick wit about her, sharing her clever comments with those lucky enough to be around her.
Clara would keep busy knitting, crocheting gifts and crafting for her granddaughters and others, finding joy in the process. Her memory was sharp, especially on the history of South County. She could answer any historical question, easily recalling names and places while entertaining listeners. For the past several years, Clara and Charlie had been regulars at the South Kingstown Senior Center for lunch, where they enjoyed the company of many friends and staff-and even made it in the front page of the South County Independent. On many occasions, Clara and Charlie would be known to visit Foxwoods with friends and would always come home with a smile and a few good stories.
In October 2023, Clara and Charlie celebrated their 70th Wedding Anniversary with family and friends, a remarkable milestone they highly regarded and cherished.
Clara is survived by her children David (Laurie), Gary (Vicki), Nancy Tourgee (Glenn), granddaughters Shelby and Corinne, along with several cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Visitation will be held from 11 am to 12 pm on Friday September 27, 2024, with a service immediately following at 12 pm in Avery - Storti Funeral Home, 88 Columbia St. Wakefield RI. The burial will be private.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made in Clara’s memory to Hope Health Hospice & Palliative Care, 1085 North Main St., Providence, RI 02904 or HopeHelathCo.Org/MemorialGiving
