Claire E. Pompei, 54, of Indian Run Village, Wakefield, died unexpectedly, Saturday at South County Hospital. Born in Providence, she was the daughter of Anthony A. Pompei Jr. and Angela R. (Boragine) Leporacci. Claire was an advocate for mental health for most of her life, fighting for the rights for mental health care. Previously associated with the Providence Oasis, she was instrumental in the start up and continuing efforts of the Oasis in Wakefield, a local drop in center. As a resident of Indian Run Village, she contributed to the correction of the traffic signals at Dale Calia Corner after a fatal accident involving another resident. She would always be there to give a hand for a good cause. Claire was a fun-loving, free spirited person and will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Besides her parents she leaves a brother, Anthony Pompei and his wife Marie of Warwick; three sisters, Patricia Kaiser of OK, Rosemarie Dufault and her husband Leonel of Wesport, MA and Marianne Cook of Warwick; many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. Visiting hours Friday 4-6 PM followed by a prayer service at 6 PM in the Avery-Storti Funeral Home, 88 Columbia St., Wakefield. Burial will be private. A Candlelight Vigil for mental health in memory of Claire Pompei will be held Friday September 24 at 7 PM at Wakefield Oasis. Rain date is September 25th. For more information, [emailprotected]
