Claire E. Masson

January 16, 1933 — August 27, 2018

Claire Elaine (Hannaway) Masson passed away on August 27, 2018 at Scallop Shell Rehab Center. Born on January 16,1933 in Providence Rl to the late Teresa (Kelly) and Walter Hannaway, she joined her late sister, Jean Hannaway. Claire married her "Rock of Gibraltar" Joseph R. Masson 60 years ago. She was the dedicated mother of Lynn Masson and Jay Masson. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Reagan and Kevin Masson; her daughter-in-law Maureen Masson; her godchildren Rev. Robert Forcier, John Killian and Lucien Masson; her cousin Carole Gray and many very dear cousins and friends. Claire was a proud graduate of Blessed Sacrament School, St. Patrick's Academy and Katherine Gibbs School, where she later worked in administration and as a recruiter. A happy highlight of Claire's life was her employment at Providence College in the Alumni Development Office. Claire loved the work and the social interaction with colleagues, students and clergy. These friendships continued until her passing. In 1997, she was thrilled to be co-awarded the Mai Brown Club Very Reverend Vincent C. Dore Award with her dear friend Blanche Hunt. Her perseverance and positive attitude enabled Claire to beat back many health issues under the care of her trusted doctor and friend Dr. Sambandam. Claire led her life with a certain elegance, tenacity and intelligence. And she did it all in heels and perfectly coifed hair. Her wisdom, cheerfulness and love will be dearly missed by her family and friends, but especially by the love of her life, Joseph R. Masson. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 am Saturday at St. Thomas More Church, 53 Rockland Street, Narragansett Burial will follow in St. Francis Cemetery, Peace Dale.
